The Stayaways

In the Press...

EP Review by David Renshaw for gigwise.com
"....Gritty and melodic, the Stayaways “Manna Factory” lyrically seems to be addressing the daily 9-5 grind (“No slave, a man just going cheap”) and the subsequent desire to escape. Powerfully executed and professionally delivered it has the air of a lost punk 45, spiky adventurous and loaded full of attitude.

“Carve Your Name” however is a much more traditional love song showing the bands ability to switch effortlessly between the anthems and the ballads. Surfing the wave between whimsical and heartfelt it is a passionate three minutes of tender introspection longing with desire.

With an innately British sound that combines many classic bands the Stayaways show here that they have real class. Ones to watch."

"....The Stayaways have a done a beautiful job on putting their songs together,an introductory riff to Manna Factory, while being relatively simple, is utterly contagious. The vocals naturally fall into place, and are evidently done with an enviable amount of ease. The charming music ends on a breakdown which I challenge any sane person not to dance to. The three individuals create a sound that many five piece bands struggle to achieve.

The second (and unfortunately final) song - Carve Your Name- shows the same modest passion for their music. Their one guitarist, Liam-John applies a variation of chords to the distinct drums and a few subtle bass riffs heard bringing out the rhythm in this striking piece of music. Unfortunately in a world where the mainstream consists of talentless musicians , whining their way through bland songs, this band must stand up and get heard for the true talent they portray."

"....Providing entertainment were The Stayaways, a three piece band from Camden who sport red and black livery and deliver a fine line in angular rock. There's more than a hint of some really great stuff to come and talent in abundance. Their third song of the evening, On The Mend was really fuckin' impressive and markedly different, shooting off on a post-rock-big-drums-delay-pedal-epic-explosions-in-the-sky-tip..... E to C # Minor is another great song with a lovely uplifting change in tempo and dynamics with a dead chunky guitar hook thrown in for good measure. These guys are ones to watch for the future...."

Camden Barfly
"...The Stayaways showed why they're the mentors of the three minute pop song, they have some great melodies under their belt and E to C # Minor is remniscent of the coolness of the Kooks..."

Bugbear Bookings
"Pyschedelicized and folked-up Nirvana-isms..."

Camden New Journal
"...I couldn't really turn off the melodic indie trio. Lovely bittersweet harmonies surge through the two-track EP (E to C # Minor and Something to Say) giving them an almost epic feel..."
